Three Frome evening beats
Maiden Newton/Vauchurch, Waddock Farm and Moreton Estate on the River Frome

Maiden Newton's Vauchurch beat runs three-quarters of a mile above Dorchester and fishes best at dusk through July and August when Pale Wateries, Blue-Winged Olives and sedges are active.
Waddock Farm gives a mile of single-bank, middle-Frome water where the club notes productive sport from an hour before sunset to an hour after. Brown trout roam the glides and tail-outs; a roaming, light-tackle approach brings fish up from the clear gravel and ranunculus runs.
Moreton Estate's three beats on the North Stream offer mixed brown trout and grayling water, and the odd sea trout push. Booking is usually for one or two rods and the estate's late spring to autumn season concentrates evening pressure into tight windows of hatch activity.
Evening insects and rigs
Dusk sight-fishing works on hatchpools and tail-outs where rises sit just below the film. A compact 9 ft #3 or #4 rod, a long leader of around 12–14 ft and 5X–6X tippet give the low-drag presentation small duns demand. Carry Grannom, Pale Watery and BWO dries, a CDC emerger and a small sedge or elk-hair caddis for spinner falls.
Target the last light on glides and tail-outs; watch for subtle sipping rises and the flash of a brown's flank. A pale dun drifts down, a film rings, and a trout slips from a gravel shoal into the last blue of evening.
