Teifi Twilight Sewin Stalking
Beat 10 — Cwm Mackwith: Teifi twilight sewin

When they run
Beat 10 — Cwm Mackwith, the 1.5 mile left bank between Llandysul and Llanfihangel-ar-Arth, produces sewin to 17 lb. Runs run April to October, with the peak from late May through the end of August. Sewin push into pool heads and faster water first as dusk arrives. As twilight deepens they shift to slower seams and glassy tails when the river is clear.
Where to launch and beats
Launch from Llandysul Angling Association water. Upper beats above Lampeter Bridge clear quickly in spates and suit early exploration; lower reaches such as Beats 13A and 14B give newcomers deep pools and long glides ideal for weekend evening stalking. Revered pools at Cwm Mackwith include Oak, Little Oak, Gravel, Lady’s, Escot and Wood. Church Farm (9A) above and Dolgrogws (11) below extend left-bank access for longer sessions.
How to present and gear
A 9 ft rod AFTMA #5/#6 and heavier mono leaders handle the night pulls and fast runs. Presentation favours stalking pool heads with nymphs and weighted flies at 4–6 ft depths in 1–2 mph glides, then switching to dry flies over sedge hatches in Clettwr Run and Lady’s Pool ranunculus beds. School sewin of 4–6 lb peak in July–August; larger runners arrive from March. Brown trout to 5 lb, salmon to about 23 lb and occasional grayling appear as bycatch. Wood Pool holds the big autumn fish.
