Ingredients
Roll out the dough
Roll the pizza dough into a rectangle to fit your baking sheet. Place it on a parchment-lined tray, leaving a small border for sealing; trim the edges if necessary.
Layer the fillings
Arrange ham, salami and pepperoni in an even layer, alternating the slices. Top with the sliced cheese and mozzarella, then tuck basil leaves over the cheese. Add extra cheese if you want a richer flavor.
Make cuts and braid
Use a sharp knife to make diagonal cuts about 2–3 cm wide along both long sides of the rectangle. Fold and cross the strips over the filling, forming a braid. Brush the surface with olive oil and sprinkle with oregano.
Bake and serve
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Bake the roll 12–15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted. Let it rest briefly, slice into portions and serve with tomato sauce.
Serve the roll warm with tomato sauce or pesto. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in the oven or a skillet. For variations add mushrooms, spinach, peppers or different cheeses. You can also freeze the assembled roll for up to one month.
